World Cup 2010

Summer is around the corner and you all know what that means right???? it means the World Cup 2010 is coming to SOUTH AFRICA. We are barely 50 days away and I am completely stoked. My sisters are actually going to South Africa for the World Cup. I won't go because I have other plans...however, when it comes to world cup mania, it's not about where you are but who you're with. If you are with a group of people struck with world cup fever, then you are bound to have a good time. I'm dedicating this post to everything football, World Cup and South Africa related. Cheers!

I believe this picture was taken during my sophomore year in college, sometime in 2008.It was the beginning of summer and we celebrated by playing a game. I just had two other people on my team ( a friend from Mexico and another friend from France) against a team of about 6 or 7 Americans. We ended up winning about 9 - 2 or something like that. I am not even exaggerating...we were scoring goals almost every other minute.

I saw this image on popafricanablog and I really liked it

If you have ever been to or lived in West Africa then these pictures would be very familiar to you :-)

I like this picture...alot. The atmosphere in South Africa during the world cup is going to be vibrant and crazy

Nice logo huh? When you blend the almost religious fanaticism towards football in Africa, and influx of hooligans and flag waving tourists, what do you get?? beautiful chaos.

  1. I love this post! The pics are great. They really capture the true spirit if the game.We played footbal in Greenwich Park last year, it was so fun. I learned one trick move and I thought I was super! Hee hee.
My sister and her husband live in South Africa part of the year. She bought me some World Cup memorabilia. The little lion is so cute.

  2. Oh Afrika,
I forgot to ask - could you tell me about some popular ice cream brands in the U.S? Over here, we have Haagen Daas, Ben&Jerrys and Baskin Robbins 31 Flavours. My friend and I are interested in opening an ice cream parlour in a couple of years. Y'all have the best ice cream and stuff and are way ahead! So, I was looking for some pointers, if that's ok!
    Thanks.

  3. hey style mansion, thanks for the comments. Ice cream?? hmmm, my favorite brand is cold stone creamery. They literally have the best ice cream in the entire universe lol very rich in flavor and texture. It's also very popular in the U.S, especially with college kids. Blue Bunny is also one of the largenst ice cream brands in the U.S. They are everywhere.

  5. Hi Afrika,
Thanks for the ice cream tip. I actually went on the Cold Stone Creamery site. Man oh man,I'm thinking of just flying over there right now and raiding that joint. Mmmmmm. You have to understand that over here, we just have a fraction and I mean a fraction of what you have. One of the first times my cousin came over here and I took him to KFC, the conversation went like this,
" Hey cus, what would you like?"
" Oh,I'll just have some normal fried, chicken, not honey barbeque, plain fries, no biscuits or macaroni"
"Ok, that's good because we don't have honey barbeque chicken, biscuits or macaroni"
    "**!!!**!"

  6. Hahaha Style Mansion, that's hilarious. My favorite thing about KFC are their biscuits. The way butter melts into those bad boys and enriches the flavor of the bread is so mouth-watering lol

*wipes spittle drooling down from my mouth*

What is the UK famous for in terms of food? what is the must have food item(s) tourists in the UK always go for? I've heard a lot about the fish and chips.

  7. Oh, you're making feel like biscuits. The best KFC biscuits I ever had was in an airport in Memphis. Afrika, they were so good, we nearly missed our flight.
You got it right about the Fish and Chips! They are delicious. I actually live near one of the top rated Fish and Chip shops in South London. When my cousin Maurice visited from Florida, he seriously though about trying to freeze the Fish and Chips to take back home! I like cod or rock fish, then you HAVE to add onion finger and eat them with mushy peas. Mush peas are exactly that green peas all mushed up, sounds nasty but tastes good.
The traditional English roast is the other famous meal roast beef, roast potatoes, yorkshire puddings and gravy. I don't really eat red meat, so just replace the beef with chicken.Man,I'm hungry now...
